Starting next year, it will be impossible to sell equipment in Russia without pre-installed browsers, messengers, antiviruses and many other programs. Today, the government announced a list of applications and devices that fall under this law.The resolution, which appeared today on the legal information website, was signed by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.

The law applies to all devices manufactured after January 1, 2021.

The resolution lists devices for which software pre-installation is mandatory. These include:

  • smartphones and tablets with touch screens that have the ability to download programs from app stores;laptops and desktop computers with an operating system;
  • smart TVs that have the ability to install programs from stores.
  • Also, by December 15, the Ministry of Digital Development should compile a rating of Russian programs and send proposals to the government for their inclusion in the software package for pre-installation.

The extensive list includes the following categories BY:

  • internet browsers;search engines;
  • navigators and maps;
  • cloud storage software;
  • email clients;
  • messengers and other messaging programs;
  • voice assistants;
  • news aggregators;
  • software that provides access to online broadcasts;
  • social network;
  • audiovisual services;
  • Mir payment system;
  • office software;
  • antiviruses.
  • Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the sale of equipment without Russian software in December last year.

Initially, it was supposed to enter into force on July 1, but its introduction was postponed due to the coronavirus.

At the beginning of the month, electronics manufacturers asked the authorities to postpone the introduction of the law, because at that time it was still unclear which programs should be installed on the devices.
