Today it became known about the claim of the Finnish studio Rovio to a restaurant in California. The latter was convicted of violating the intellectual property rights to the Angry Birds trademark.

According to Rovio representatives, the owners of the Angry Birds Nashville Hot Chicken restaurant used the name of the game franchise without permission. In addition, the logo of the public institution also refers to “angry birds”.

The developer studio tried to negotiate with the owners of the restaurant about changing its name and logo. But the negotiations, which have lasted since February, have led to nothing. Therefore, last week Rovio filed a lawsuit in the Central Court of California, reports Gamesindustry.biz . She demands not only to prohibit the restaurant from using IP Angry Birds, but also to compensate for losses. The amount of compensation is not called.

The fact that they use (for their logo) the same font as in the game actually complicates the life of the restaurant itself. The court may consider that this creates confusion and also indicates a deliberate intention to confuse visitors. It would make more sense for a restaurant to use a completely different font.
