The trial of Epic and Apple is still more than six months away. Meanwhile, the owners of Fortnite are making another loud statement. This time, the developers claim that they have never “stolen” anything from Apple — the unpaid commission rightfully belongs to them.
Epic made such a statement last Friday, writes The Verge. Representatives of the company are sure that their actions are far from criminal, which Apple exposes them to be. According to the developers, Epic could not “steal” the proceeds of its own game.
The developers also emphasize that they did not prevent the American corporation from making money on Fortnite users in other ways unrelated to internal fees.
Apple has not yet commented on Epic Games’ position.
The conflict between the companies broke out in mid-August. Then Epic launched a new payment system in the mobile version of Fortnite bypassing Apple’s commission, after which it was accused of violating the rules of the App Store and the battle royale was removed from the marketplace.
At the moment, several hearings have already been held on the case, but the situation will not be finally resolved until May 2021.
