Indie game developers on the GameMaker Studio 2 engine have a simplified way to publish their projects. To do this, Opera launched the GXC platform. It will allow you to publish titles for free by exporting them from the engine directly to the browser. In the announcement, the company noted that this is the first step towards creating synergy between GameMaker Studio 2 and the Opera GX gaming browser.
The GXC platform will allow you to instantly and at the same time publish titles developed on GameMaker for free directly in the browser. Thus, Opera wants to reduce the time needed to promote games and provide developers with access to an audience of gamers.
According to the company, now Opera GX browser is used by over 10 million people, and its audience is constantly growing.
Along with the announcement of the new platform, Opera announced the Community Showcase Competition. Any developer of free games on the GameMaker Studio 2 engine can participate in it.
Projects will compete in nine categories: best art direction, best level design, best action, best platformer, etc. At the same time, developers are allowed to make changes to their games during the entire competition. On October 30, the jury will select 45 winners who will receive $1,000 each.
Opera actively engaged in the development of the gaming direction and GameMaker Studio 2 after it acquired YoYo Games for $ 10 million at the beginning of the year. At the same time, the company first started talking about plans to integrate the engine into Opera GX.
In July, GameMaker Studio 2 got an unlimited free version. Soon after, the company also changed the monetization of commercial licenses, making paid options much clearer.
