Take-Two Interactive wants to unmask the authors of GTA VI leaks through legal action, Double Fine Productions has completed its separation from Microsoft, and sales of How to Fish surpassed a million copies in just two days — here are the key events in the gaming industry over the past weekend.
- Take-Two Interactive filed a lawsuit in a New York court demanding Microsoft and Discord hand over information about hackers responsible for recent leaks of GTA VI gameplay online. The company is particularly interested in account identifiers, IP addresses, emails, phone numbers, and other information that could help identify the perpetrators. The court has already approved the request, and XBOX's Technical Director Scott Van Vliet tweeted that Microsoft is closely collaborating with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games, supporting their "efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property." However, Take-Two Interactive has not publicly commented on the situation.
- Double Fine Productions CEO Tim Schafer announced that his studio has officially separated from Microsoft. Speaking on the Kinda Funny Games podcast, he confirmed that after the separation, the team regained the rights to its intellectual property and now earns all the revenue from its developed games. Schafer added that Double Fine Productions has enough funding for the time being, but the studio still wants to secure its future. To this end, they plan to launch the Amnesia Fortnight game jam on August 31, during which Double Fine Productions employees will create game prototypes, one of which will eventually become a full-fledged game. The game jam will be funded through a Kickstarter campaign.
- A new "friendslop" game has exploded on Steam. Last weekend, Dazed Games, supported by Landfall Games co-authors Peak, released the cooperative fishing simulator How to Fish on the platform, which quickly captured attention. According to the developers, the game managed to sell a million copies just two days after its release. How to Fish also boasts a high peak concurrent user count, surpassing 268,000 on the evening of August 23.
- The train stunt platformer Denshattack! also achieved success. As announced by Undercoders and publisher Fireshine Games, more than 300,000 people have engaged with the game since its release on July 15, 2026, with 150,000 purchasing it. Denshattack! is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2, including through the Game Pass subscription.
