OtherSide Entertainment has conducted a second round of layoffs this summer. This time, it reduced its workforce by 18 employees.
Thick As Thieves
In a comment to Game Developer, a studio representative reported that this wave of layoffs affected part of the team responsible for the stealth action game Thick as Thieves, which was released in May. It seems that the game did not meet expectations.
“The DNA of OtherSide Entertainment is rooted in immersive simulators with long development cycles. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly challenging to operate in this segment in recent years. Despite a promising reception to the initial campaign of Thick as Thieves, it became clear to us that the studio's continued existence in its current form is no longer a commercially viable option,” stated a representative of OtherSide Entertainment.
OtherSide Entertainment added that following the layoffs, fewer than 10 people remain at the studio to support Thick as Thieves.
Currently, the studio, led by industry veterans Warren Spector and Paul Neurath, does not plan to embark on new game projects. It is possible that the future of OtherSide Entertainment itself is now in question.
