US Senator Maria Cantwell is alarmed by the situation on the AAA games market in Japan. At the last meeting in the US Senate, she accused Sony of monopoly, saying that the company owns 98% of the market.

According to Cantwell, the Japanese government is partly to blame for what is happening, since it allows Sony “to engage in blatant anti-competitive activities: to conclude exclusive deals and pay game publishers.” The senator suggested that officials think about how they can influence this problem.

Cantwell did not say where she got the 98% figure from. But we note that earlier similar data was voiced by Microsoft. During the hearings in the European Commission, the corporation announced that the PlayStation share in the Japanese gaming market is 96%, and the Xbox share is 4%.
