At the beginning of the summer, it was announced that the Sumo Group holding company was closing the Canadian firm Timbre Games as part of a cost-cutting program. Three months later, the studio managed to reopen its doors.

Timbre Games co-founder and CEO Joe Nickolls shared on LinkedIn that the developers did not want to give up and decided to step away from Sumo Group instead of closing.

"The wonderful people at Sumo Digital [a subsidiary of Sumo Group. — Ed. note] helped us become a fully independent studio and allowed us to take the Timbre Games name and brand with us. We are extremely grateful to them for their assistance," Nickolls wrote.

Timbre Games was originally established in 2021. It was opened by a group of industry veterans who had previously worked at companies such as Maxis, The Coalition, and Relic Entertainment. As of June 2024, Timbre Games employed approximately 100 people who were working on two unannounced games for consoles and PC.
