This morning, May 7, it was reported that gaming companies in Russia are being fined extensively due to lawsuits from Roskomnadzor. Amidst these developments, there were speculations that the next step might be to block the games, but the agency denied these claims.

In a comment to the newspaper “RBC,” representatives of Roskomnadzor stated that they do not intend to ban GTA, Battlefield, or other games owned by the penalized developers in the country. They explained that imposing restrictions requires grounds, which are currently absent.

It remains unspecified whether the grounds will arise if developers fail to pay the fines and do not comply with the data localization requirement.

It should be noted that just this spring, the Tagansky Court of Moscow issued fines to Battlestate Games, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and NetEase. It is also expected that in the coming days, the court might fine three more companies: Epic Games, Embracer Group, and Digital Extremes.
