The loot boxes are under attack again. Spanish officials have submitted a bill that obliges games with gambling mechanics (such as gacha, for example) to identify their users.

The purpose of the future law is to protect minors from “gambling addiction”. The Spanish authorities believe that children should not be taught to the principles in the spirit of “the more boxes you open, the cooler the prize you will win.”

Simply put, children should not have access to games in the spirit of Genshin Impact, Clash Royale, Diablo Immortal and many other hits that earn millions of dollars on mechanics with random loot.

According to the bill, such games should not only be able to confirm the age of the user, but also support biometric recognition technologies.

Also, if adopted, the initiative will oblige developers:

▫️report the probability of receiving items (users should know what their chance of getting a particular item is);

▫️install a tool to set a spending limit that cannot be changed until at least three months have passed.
