The creators of the open-source engine Godot have released a new version—numbered 4.7. This tool has received a range of improvements related to graphics, interface work, and much more.

Key innovations include:

  • Godot has gained HDR support for devices based on Windows, macOS, iOS, visionOS, and Linux (Wayland). It will also be available on Android in the future, though the exact timing is unclear;
  • a new node, AreaLight3D, has been added for rectangular light sources—like windows, advertising billboards, TVs, computer monitors, etc. This node helps achieve more realistic lighting and soft shadows;
  • real-time preview of text shaders has been introduced in Godot;
  • an Offset Transform system has been implemented for Control nodes. Developers can now scale, rotate, and move interface elements without affecting the rest of the container;
  • Godot now allows easy drawing directly over textures with the addition of the DrawableTexture2D API layer;
  • Godot has learned to read data from accelerometers and gyroscopes of controllers.

Meanwhile, the Godot team reminded users about the launch of the early version of their own asset store, which is replacing the Godot Asset Library. Although the Godot Asset Store is currently in beta testing, it is being actively developed.
