The website Metacritic has published a list of the lowest-rated games of 2024. The shooter Utopia City topped the list, even though it initially came out way back in 2005 but unexpectedly debuted on Steam a month ago.
Utopia City
For reference: Utopia City was developed by the now-defunct Parallax Arts Studio, whose main team was based in Saint Petersburg. The studio was known for misleading investors from the entertainment company Adamant for years, extracting money from them. As reported by "Igromania" citing a leaked video featuring Adamant's founder Mikhail Bazhenov, Parallax Arts Studio demanded $400,000 from investors just for creating design documents for their games.
Starting this year, Metacritic considers games that have received at least four reviews from industry critics, instead of seven, when compiling its anti-rating. According to the site's editors, this makes the list more interesting. Additionally, not only console and PC releases can make the list, but also mobile games and VR headset games, as well as expansions and compilations.
