The turn to publish a financial report has come for Nintendo. The Japanese company presented the results of the first quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended on June 30, 2026.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Main Figures

  • Compared to last year, Nintendo's quarterly revenue declined. It fell by 9.5% to 517.8 billion yen ($3.28 billion).
  • At the same time, operating profit soared by 150.5% to 142.5 billion yen ($903 million), and net profit increased by 53.5% to 147.4 billion yen ($934 million).
  • In the report, Nintendo mentioned that it received about $300 million from the US authorities as compensation for canceled tariffs. The company reflected this as a reduction in the cost of sales. Nintendo emphasized that the main expenses due to tariffs were borne by the company itself, with little passed on to consumers.

Console Business

  • During the quarter, Nintendo sold 3.82 million Switch 2 units. This is 34.4% less than a year ago when the console had just been released. By the end of June, total sales of Switch 2 since launch reached 23.68 million units.
  • Sales of the first Switch also decreased — by 31.8% to 660,000 units. The total shipment of the console as of June 30 reached 156.59 million units.

Games

  • In three months, gamers worldwide purchased 9.46 million (+9.2%) copies of games for Switch 2 and 33.81 million (+38.6%) copies of games for the first Switch.
  • Sales of digital versions of games and DLC brought Nintendo 132.7 billion yen ($841 million), which is 90% more compared to April-June 2025. Their share in revenue from all game sales for the quarter is 61.5%.
  • Sales of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream reached 8 million copies.
  • Mario Kart World remains the top bestseller on Switch 2. By the end of June, its sales amounted to 15.39 million copies. On the first Switch, the leading title is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 71.53 million copies sold.
