The British publisher Merge Games has closed its doors after 15 years in operation. This was announced on its official social media page on X.

The statement did not specify the reasons for the closure of Merge Games. However, it is worth noting that it followed shortly after significant layoffs. In early September, it became known that the publisher's parent company, Maximum Entertainment, had shut down Merge Games' office in Chelford and laid off several employees as part of a consolidation strategy.

At the time of the closure, Merge Games employed 22 people.

Merge Games was founded in 2009 and initially specialized in the physical distribution of indie games. For instance, it released physical editions of Dead Cells, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Frostpunk. Later, Merge Games also ventured into digital publishing. Its last release was Selfloss — an adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting, developed by the indie studio Goodwin Games.

According to the portal GamesIndustry, Maximum Entertainment will take over further work on Merge Games' projects.
