Clay John, a member of the board of directors at the Godot Foundation, shared intriguing statistics about the engine on the Godot blog. Among other things, he calculated how many games created with Godot have been released on Steam in recent years.

Slay the Spire 2

John immediately clarified that he used some information from open sources, as he does not have all official data. In the case of Steam, he referred to the SteamDB service, which showed the current situation on the platform.

As John noted, every year more Godot games appear in Valve’s store. In 2019, only 56 projects on this engine were released on Steam, but in 2020 — 106. By 2025, the number of such new releases reached 1229. That is, over the past six years, the popularity of Godot among Steam developers has jumped 22 times.

Nevertheless, John pointed out, a significant number of developers still prefer to release Godot games in the indie store itch.io due to its low entry threshold. According to the specialist’s calculations, in 2025, 36,500 Godot games debuted on itch.io. Incidentally, this is also more than before — compared to 2019, their number increased 2.4 times.

As for other platforms — John did not say. However, it is quite likely that the number of such projects is gradually increasing there as well. Recall that a couple of years ago, following the Unity monetization scandal, many developers switched engines, opting for Godot. Among them were, for example, the creators of Slay the Spire 2 and Road to Vostok.
