The analytical company Circana (formerly NPD Group) has released a report on the American gaming market for May 2023. Against the background of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, revenue increased for all segments.
In total, Americans spent $4.1 billion on video games, hardware and gaming accessories in May. 12% more than in May 2021.
Video game sales totaled $3.62 billion (+9%), hardware sales — $338 million (+56%), and sales of gaming accessories — $159 million (+14%).
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom topped the top of the best-selling games of the month. It also ranked second in sales for 2023.
The most successful console was the Nintendo Switch — both in dollars and in terms of the number of devices sold.
