Roskomnadzor announced that it does not plan to block Call of Duty and Wolfenstein in Russia, MindsEye became the worst new release of 2025 according to Metacritic, and a union was formed at id Software—here's a rundown of the main events in the gaming industry over the past weekend.
- Representatives of Roskomnadzor stated to the Daily Storm publication that the agency is not going to limit or ban the Call of Duty and Wolfenstein series games in Russia. According to them, there is currently no basis for this. Recall that there has been active talk online about the potential ban of certain games in Russia following the Roblox ban. In particular, in early December, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy Mikhail Delyagin requested Roskomnadzor to check Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for Russophobia and then ban it.
- Metacritic published a list of the lowest-rated games released in 2025. The first place in the negative ratings went to MindsEye—a failed action game from former GTA producer Leslie Benzies. It received a score of 28 out of 100 from critics. The top 10 worst games of the year also included Fire Emblem Shadows (37 points), Blood of Mehran (38 points), Spy Drops (39 points), Gore Doctor (40 points), Tamagotchi Plaza (43 points), Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator (44 points), QUByte Classics: Glover (44 points), Scar-Lead Salvation (44 points), and Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition (45 points).
- Employees of id Software formed a union—with 165 people voting in favor of its creation. The developers' parent company, Microsoft, has already recognized it. The union is reported to operate under the aegis of the larger Communications Workers of America, which has previously taken other Microsoft studio unions under its wing.
- The studio The Astronauts shared the successes of the dark shooter Witchfire about witch hunting. The team announced that its sales have reached 500,000 copies. It took the game 15 months to reach this milestone since Witchfire debuted in early access on September 23, 2024. The Astronauts also announced the release of a major update called The Reckoning, which added melee weapons, new enemies, an arachnophobia mode, and much more to Witchfire. When Witchfire will officially release remains unknown, but it is expected to be in mid-2026.
