Research has shown that in 2023, the revenue from the gaming peripheral market exceeded $10 billion, Fallout: London set a record for daily downloads on GOG, and its creators are considering opening their own studio. Here's what happened in the gaming industry over the weekend.
Fallout: London
- The analytics company Omdia calculated that last year gamers worldwide spent a record $10.1 billion on gaming accessories and peripherals. Gamepads accounted for 44.3% of all expenditures. Analysts predict that the market will continue to grow actively in the coming years. Preliminary estimates suggest that by 2029, its revenue will reach $11.8 billion.
- The creators of the Fallout: London mod for Fallout 4 announced that in the first 24 hours, users of the GOG store downloaded their project over 500,000 times. No game on the platform has previously garnered so many downloads in a single day. The developers thanked players for their interest and expressed their gratitude to the GOG team for their support.
- In an interview with the BBC, Dean Carter, head of Team FOLON, the group behind Fallout: London, revealed the modders' plans to open a full-fledged studio. According to him, after the release of Fallout: London, the developers received numerous donations, which they intend to use to launch the studio. Carter hopes that opening the studio will allow Team FOLON to "come up with their own ideas, create their own games, and work with the community without having to deal with higher-ups like Bethesda." He added that creating Fallout: London was an excellent starting point because Team FOLON interacted a lot with players and now understands what the audience likes.
