James Ohlen, head and one of the founders of Archetype Entertainment, a studio working on the science fiction action RPG Exodus, has decided to resign six years after launching the team.

His departure was announced by Hasbro, which owns Archetype Entertainment. According to them, Ohlen felt that he had fulfilled his responsibilities on Exodus and is now confident the studio can finish the game without him.
Following his resignation, Ohlen will continue to collaborate with Hasbro, but as a creative consultant. He plans to shift his focus from video games to board games.
Notably, just a week ago, it was announced that the release of Exodus has been delayed from 2026 to early 2027. It is unclear if this is related to Ohlen leaving Archetype Entertainment.
Ohlen has extensive experience in the gaming industry. Prior to Archetype Entertainment, he spent over two decades at BioWare, where he was involved in Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the first two Baldur’s Gate titles, and many other games. In 2018, he attempted to leave game development, only to gather a team a year later to develop Exodus.
