Since the beginning of the year, gaming companies have laid off over 10,000 employees. FromSoftware is one of the studios that has avoided layoffs. In an interview with PC Gamer, its president Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that he would never wish his subordinates to be subjected to mass layoffs.

Miyazaki admitted that he cannot say with 100% certainty what the future holds for FromSoftware. However, as long as he directs the studio, he will not allow any layoffs. Moreover, the game designer noted that his stance on layoffs is shared by Kadokawa, FromSoftware’s parent company.
Miyazaki quoted former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata: “People who are afraid of losing their jobs cannot create games that impress people around the world.” Iwata said these words in 2013, when Nintendo faced losses but still did not conduct layoffs. At that time, Iwata reduced his own salary by 50%.
