The studio's co-founders, Ryan Stefanelli and Joe Madureira, explained the layoffs were due to the challenging situation in the gaming industry. They noted that Airship Syndicate initiated restructuring in January in an attempt to address the issues, but it proved insufficient.

The top executives also confirmed that at the beginning of the year, they reduced their own salaries to help cut the studio's costs and have been regularly investing personal funds into Airship Syndicate's budget since then.

Despite the layoffs, Airship Syndicate will continue to work on Wayfinder and pursue future projects. The company currently has about 50 employees.
