The head of the NetEase partnership department, Simon Zhu, wrote on LinkedIn that he spent ten thousand hours in Warcraft, Starcraft and Overwatch and is now “heartbroken” because of the closure of games in China. He also spoke sharply about the people who made the decision:
“Someday it will be possible to talk about what happened behind the scenes. Then developers and gamers will reach a whole new level of understanding of what damage a jerk can do.”
Zhu dispensed with names. But Tom Warren, editor-in-chief of The Verge, suggested that he called Bobby Kotick a “jerk”.
