Many people know the Japanese film company Toei Company for its variety of anime series — One Piece, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, and others. Now its portfolio is about to expand further, as Toei Company has decided to actively venture into video games.
It is reported that Toei Games will both develop its own games and collaborate with external developers. Moreover, it plans to work with teams from around the world.
It is noteworthy that at least the debut lineup of Toei Games will be based not on franchises owned by the company, but on new original IPs. Additionally, initially, Toei Games will release games solely on PC (primarily on Steam), and only over time will it also enter the console market. More detailed information about specific titles will be shared by Toei Games this Friday, April 24.
Toei Company is not a newcomer to the gaming industry. In the 1980s-1990s, it published a number of games in Japan, and recently announced that its division, Toei Animation, participated in the development of the upcoming pixel adventure Re:VER PROJECT -TOKYO-. However, until now, the company did not have a dedicated gaming team.
