The Defold Foundation has announced that it will no longer charge console game developers for full access to the source code of the Defold engine.

The Defold Foundation recalled that console developers had previously been able to use the engine for free to create their games, but without access to the source code. Those who wanted to receive it had to pay $200 each month. The company added that it made concessions primarily in order to give developers the opportunity to solve problems on their own, if necessary.

On consoles, Defold currently supports development only for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. In the near future, the creators of the engine are also planning to add support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
