Outersloth is a fund established in 2022 by the creators of Among Us to support indie developers. It has decided to become more transparent by sharing the contract text it offers to teams.
It is noteworthy that such contracts are often kept confidential, but Outersloth has stated that by making theirs public, the fund hopes to challenge the status quo in the gaming industry.
Here are some interesting points from the contract with Outersloth:
- Outersloth takes 50% of the game's revenue until the developer fully reimburses the advance provided for the creation and publishing of the project;
- once the advance is recouped, the revenue split changes to favor the developer: game authors receive 85%, while Outersloth takes 15%;
- even if the developer initially plans to release the game on just one platform, the contract is signed with an eye on all major platforms: PC, consoles, and mobile. Therefore, if the game is published elsewhere in the future, Outersloth will still have the right to a share of the sales revenue;
- generally, the contract term expires seven years from the game's release.
During a presentation at the GDC 2026 conference, Outersloth and Innersloth's community director Victoria Tran shared that over four years, the fund has made deals with 1.4% of developers who approached it. She stated that this is a decent rate, slightly higher than the industry standard. In total, during this time, Outersloth has invested $19.16 million in 24 games.
