The major American agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which represents the interests of many star actors and athletes, will now finance independent game developers. To do this, it has launched a special fund called Frame1Games.
Within the fund, CAA plans to primarily support small emerging teams — a few each year. The agency is ready to provide them with multi-million dollar investments, allowing them to turn "great game ideas into long-term businesses." The exact amounts indie developers can expect are not specified, nor are the financing terms publicly disclosed.
However, it is known that in addition to money, indie developers will receive consultations from game development veterans. CAA will also grant them access to its distribution and marketing network. For instance, studios will be able to showcase game trailers at major presentations like Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards.
In an interview with Variety, CAA representatives mentioned another intriguing aspect. They stated that the games from Frame1Games-supported teams will be featured on a "curated marketplace," though they did not go into further details.
It's worth noting that CAA has a history of working with gaming companies. The agency has previously collaborated with Respawn Entertainment, Obsidian Entertainment, Turtle Rock Studios, AdHoc Studio, Strange Scaffold, and many others.
