Modern video games should be priced higher, believes co-founder of Warhorse Studios, Martin Klíma. He shared this opinion in a conversation with PC Gamer.
GTA VI
In the interview, Klíma stated that raising prices is necessary for the survival of the gaming industry. He explained that game development has become exceedingly costly and is unlikely to become cheaper in the future, with few options available to offset rising expenses.
“The last resort we have is to increase the price per game copy. This would help significantly, but everyone is deathly afraid to do so. Hopefully, GTA VI will pave the way,” Klíma said.
The co-founder of Warhorse Studios added that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games can undertake such a move without much risk. Although Klíma himself doesn’t understand the popularity of the GTA series, he considers the upcoming GTA VI a “technological marvel” and believes in its success.
It is worth noting that the standard price for AAA games is currently $70, while the basic edition of GTA VI will cost gamers $80, and the ultimate edition will be priced at $100.
GTA VI will be released on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
