James Schmalz, founder and CEO of Digital Extremes, has decided to leave his position. He headed the company for 30 years.

Schmaltz is not going to finally leave Digital Extremes. He said that he will remain on the board of directors and will share recommendations on the development of the company.

Schmaltz was replaced as CEO by Steve Sinclair, a Digital Extremes veteran who has been working at the company for 24 years. Prior to Schmaltz's retirement, he was creative director.

Now Digital Extremes is working on a fantasy MMORPG Soulframe. The game was announced in 2022, but neither the release date nor the target platforms are yet known.
