Matthew Karch shared his opinion during the presentation of the quarterly report of Embracer Group, the parent company of Saber Interactive. He noted that now the success of the games is much more influenced by the quality of the titles themselves, the hype on social networks and the reviews of influencers.
“I can name games with 8 and 9 points [on Metacritic], the publishers of which would like them never to be released. It’s nice to hang a sign with the rating of the game on the wall. But what’s the point if you can’t afford a nail?” said Karch.
Karch also added that you should not be too happy about good initial sales. According to him, even the creators of premium titles cannot guarantee that they will sell well after a month. Nevertheless, there are “many ways to monetize”, and you can always find a suitable one.
