Escape the Backrooms
The newly established studio, like Secret Mode itself, is located in the United Kingdom. Initially, it will assist the creators of the cooperative games Chained Together and Escape the Backrooms in developing new content and working on ports (at least Chained Together is planned to be ported to consoles in the future. — Ed. note). The studio does not plan to create its own games from scratch.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, Dan Secker, Secret Mode's Vice President of Technology and Operations, shared that the decision to launch the studio had been maturing for some time.
“We were spending huge amounts on collaborating with external development teams. [...] Eventually, we asked ourselves why not create our own team to support our product portfolio and build specialized content updating pipelines?” explained Secker.
Currently, the studio has only three employees, but they plan to expand to approximately 20 employees within the year.
Secret Mode was founded in 2020 and for a long time was part of Sumo Group. In March 2025, it was acquired by its own management for an undisclosed amount. In addition to Chained Together and Escape the Backrooms, Secret Mode's portfolio includes titles such as Still Wakes the Deep, A Little to the Left, Dear Esther, DeathSprint 66, and the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Racer.
