Today marks the launch of the open beta test for the domestic game engine Nau Engine.

This is an open source project under the 3-Clause BSD license, which allows developers to freely manage the source code of Nau Engine. When publicly distributing projects under this license, they are required to retain a disclaimer about copyrights and a waiver of liability for any potential software issues.

Representatives of Nau Engine emphasize that members of the game development community can:

  • adapt the basic version of Nau Engine to their needs, up to creating their own game engine based on it;
  • use the built-in features of Nau Engine in both commercial and non-commercial projects;
  • develop games using the available tools;
  • expand the engine's capabilities and add new features that weren't initially available;
  • apply the engine for research purposes.

Alongside the engine, developers have released a Language-agnostic system—a tool for working with scripts in different languages within a single project. This means you can now write code not only in C++ and C#, on which Nau Engine is based.

According to the team, the system "can function as an external library for the engine itself, and as a standalone finished product ready for use in the IT sector, including outside video game development."

The full release of the engine is scheduled for late 2025.
