How many employees lost their jobs remains unknown.

MindsEye

The new round of layoffs was announced by Build a Rocket Boy's co-leader Mark Gerhard in the studio's LinkedIn account. He explained that the reductions are a result of the failure of the team's debut project—the shooter MindsEye, released in June 2025. Recall that at launch, the game received a cold reception, and its daily peak online numbers in Steam have long fallen below 100 players.

The top manager admitted that such a decision is “cruel and gut-wrenching,” but necessary to ensure the long-term future of Build a Rocket Boy. The studio has promised to assist laid-off employees in finding new jobs.

In his statement, Gerhard also mentioned that the studio had spent the past few months investigating "criminal activity" surrounding the release of MindsEye. He stated that Build a Rocket Boy had found indisputable evidence of a campaign organized to sabotage the game and of corporate espionage. The case is now progressing to court.

Gerhard previously asserted multiple times that MindsEye failed due to its reputation being intentionally damaged. At the beginning of February, Insider Gaming discovered that studio management believes a "very large American company" is behind the game’s sabotage, having paid more than €1 million through intermediaries to influencers, media, and individual Build a Rocket Boy employees.

Previously, it was reported in late June about layoffs at Build a Rocket Boy. Back then, the number of affected employees was not officially disclosed either, but media speculated that more than 100 people might have lost their jobs.
