GamedevDou portal talked to Lithuanian developers about the state of the Lithuanian gaming industry. We have selected the key facts.
More than 100 gaming companies are currently based in Lithuania. This is three times more than in 2018.
According to the data of the Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, Egle Markeviciute, there are 3 thousand game dev specialists in the country. Of these, 27% are women. However, according to estimates of the Lithuanian Association of Game Developers (LZKA), 2.5 thousand people are employed in the local game dev.
Developers who communicated with GamedevDou noted that there are “not so many” game dev specialists from Russia in Lithuania. There are fewer of them than Belarusians. Recall that a month ago LZKA reported that 1.5 thousand people work in Lithuanian divisions of companies with Belarusian roots.
The Lithuanian gaming industry generates €225 million per year. This is three times more than the gaming industries of Latvia and Estonia combined, says the head of LZKA, Rytis Jadzevicius. Most of the amount is accounted for by mobile gaming companies.
▪️The average salary in Lithuanian gaming companies is €4,600. If we talk about specific companies, then in No Brakes Games it is €5520, in Nordcurrent Group it is €3814 (€3352 for women and €3954 for men), and in Estoty Vilnius it is €3447 (€2919 for women and €3563 for men).
The interlocutors of GamedevDou also pointed out that many foreign and local teams do not add Lithuanian localization to games because of its high cost.
“It’s all very sad. We produce very few games with Lithuanian voice acting. Except that sometimes such releases are released with the support of the government, but this almost does not happen,” said the head of LZKA.
