Sony Corporation released its financial report for October-December 2025. We have selected the key highlights concerning its gaming division.

Ghost of Yōtei

  • For the quarter, Sony's gaming division revenue amounted to 1.6 trillion yen or approximately 10 billion dollars. This is 4% less than a year ago.
  • Sony explained that the decline in revenue was due to a decrease in console and other hardware sales. Revenue from these fell by 23% to 450.4 billion yen (2.87 billion dollars).
  • However, revenue from game sales increased by 6.5% to 835.5 billion yen (5.32 billion dollars). Microtransactions and other in-game purchases contributed 50% of this amount.
  • Revenue from gaming services rose by 12.6% to 199.3 billion yen (1.27 billion dollars). This includes revenue from PlayStation Network, PlayStation Plus, and advertising.
  • Although Sony's gaming division revenue decreased, its operating profit actually increased. It rose by 19% to 140.8 billion yen (897 million dollars).
  • During the quarter, Sony sold 8 million PlayStation 5 units. Total sales of the console reached 92.2 million units.
  • Quarterly game sales totaled 97.2 million copies. Of these, 13.2 million copies were Sony's own games.
  • In December, the monthly active users on PlayStation Network reached 132 million people for the first time in history. It had never reached such levels before.
