The head of Larian Studios, Sven Vincke, stated in an interview with Eurogamer that Baldur’s Gate 3 is much more successful at the early access stage than the studio’s previous game.
“I want to say, although I’m not completely sure about it, that Divinity: Original Sin 2 sold three times better than Divinity: Original Sin 1. The truthful answer is that it sold a multimillion copies, enough to allow us to develop Baldur’s Gate 3,” said Vinke.
As for Baldur’s Gate 3 itself, it is, according to him, “much more successful than Divinity: Original Sin 2. They are not even worth comparing. I think that at the early access stage, the game is five times more successful than Divinity: Original Sin 2, if not even more. I honestly don’t know the numbers, even though it sounds crazy. One game is much, much, much more successful than Divinity: Original Sin 2 during early access.”
It also became known from the interview that the Larian Studios development team now has more than 400 people. This is 10 times more than it was at the time of creation of Divinity: Original Sin 1.
Vinke assures that he did not want the team to grow so much, but he wanted there to be beautiful videos, so that the game corresponded to the AAA level, so that the story was determined by mechanics, so that there was multiplayer and a wide choice of actions for the player.
