Supercell has increased its stake in the British studio Space Ape, thereby fully acquiring it. Previously, the Finnish company already held a controlling interest.
The terms and sum of the current deal have not been disclosed, but it is known that the acquisition is expected to be finalized by spring 2025.
Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen highlighted the strategic importance of this move: “We believe that strong teams create the best games. With this in mind, we are delighted to become part of the British gaming ecosystem, strengthening our collaboration with Space Ape. The new London office will bring us closer to our goal — to create games that become classics and bring joy to players for many years.”
Space Ape head John Earner also expressed support for the deal, calling it a new phase in the partnership with Supercell.
Up to this point, the developer of Clash of Clans was already a majority shareholder in the British studio. In 2022, the Finnish developer invested $37 million in Space Ape Games. Its stake in the studio was estimated at 75%. Previously, during the initial stages of their partnership, Supercell invested another $56.6 million.
Space Ape Games is primarily known for its mobile projects — Beatstar, Rival Kingdoms, and Transformers: Earth Wars.
