Square Enix published its financial report for the quarter ending June 30, 2024. We have highlighted the main points from the document.
Final Fantasy XVI
- Square Enix's operating profit grew by 250% to ¥10.8 billion ($74.2 million).
- The company's quarterly net sales amounted to ¥69.9 billion ($480 million), down 18.4% from the previous year.
- The mobile and browser gaming subsegment led in net sales volume, generating ¥18.9 billion ($129.8 million), a decline of 15.2%.
- Sales in the HD games subsegment (console and PC games) dropped by 57.4%, totaling ¥12.3 billion ($84.5 million). According to Square Enix, revenue sharply decreased due to the lack of strong releases as seen last year. To recall, from April to June 2023, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XVI and the console version of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection.
- Sales in the MMO subsegment increased by 13.6% to ¥12.5 billion ($85.8 million). The main online games remained Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest X.
- During the quarter, Square Enix sold a total of 4.39 million game copies, which is 3.15 million fewer copies than the same period last year.
