Dmitry Peskov, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on digital and technological development, compared video games with drugs. He stated that some Western developers are deliberately trying to cause addiction in order to earn more.

“What are games? These are “digital drugs” offered today by the largest Western corporations [Meta*, Microsoft, Google]. They [want] to put a person on “drugs”. The more he plays, the more he donates, the more he donates, the more income [corporations]. This is done so that you donate incessantly, otherwise you are not cool,” Peskov said during a speech at the SPIEF.

Peskov did not specify whether he considers the games of Russian studios to be “digital drugs”.
