Sony announced the results of the second quarter of fiscal 2023 (July-September 2023). Below is a brief summary of the success of the gaming division.

▫️Compared to last year, its revenue increased by 32%, reaching ¥954.1 billion ($6.32 billion).

▫️Of this amount, ¥479.3 billion ($3.2 billion) brought sales of games and content. Revenue from console sales was ¥287.5 billion ($1.9 billion), and revenue from gaming services was ¥133.9 billion ($887 million).

▫️The division's operating profit increased by 16% to ¥48.9 billion ($324 million).

▫️Sony sold 4.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the quarter. In total, by September 30, it had shipped 46.6 million PlayStation 5 consoles.

During the quarter, 67.6 million copies of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games were sold — 5.1 million copies more than in July-September 2022. Of these 67.6 million copies, 4.7 million were games from Sony studios.

▫️As of September 30, the monthly active PlayStation audience was 107 million people. A year ago there were 102 million of them.

By March 2026, Sony is now planning to release not 12, but six service games. The company decided to spend more time on projects to make them better.
