Owners of the portable streaming console PlayStation Portal are most active at 9:00 PM. This was revealed in an interview with journalist Stephen Totilo from Game File by Hiromi Wakai, the Vice President of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Wakai noted that the peak usage of PlayStation Portal occurs just an hour later than that of the PlayStation 5 — the stationary console peaks at 8:00 PM. The executive speculated that gamers start playing on the PlayStation 5 but then switch to the PlayStation Portal to continue their gameplay. This allows them to free up the TV so other family members can use it.
According to Wakai, PlayStation Portal owners spend more time gaming compared to those who only own a PlayStation 5. However, he didn’t specify the exact duration. Wakai also mentioned that perhaps the device was initially purchased by more engaged gamers, which might explain the higher gameplay time.
Sony released the PlayStation Portal in November 2023. At launch, the streaming console couldn’t independently run games — it only streamed them from the PlayStation 5 via Wi-Fi. However, last month, a major patch was released for the PlayStation Portal, which added the ability to play games from the cloud. Nevertheless, this feature is still in beta and not available to all users yet.
