According to Bloomberg, Sony Group Corporation has decided to shut down its division responsible for creating remakes and remasters of iconic PlayStation titles.
About 70 employees will be left without work. Officially, the studio will cease operations next month. The reasons for its closure have not been disclosed. This decision was made following the latest business review.
Founded in 2006 in Austin, the studio specialized in remakes and remasters. Notably, it was responsible for bringing the Uncharted series and classics like Shadow of the Colossus to modern platforms. It created the Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5 and assisted in the development of God of War Ragnarok.
The studio's closure follows the cancellation of a game service based on the God of War franchise. Work on it was halted in January 2025. Over the past year, the company has been focused on pitches. As we can see, none of them resonated with Sony's management.
