The Last of Us Part II
An enthusiast known as Speclizer reported that the multiplayer mod he was developing for The Last of Us Part II will not see the light of day. He received a letter from Sony demanding that the project not be released — it was supposed to launch by the end of the month.
Speclizer did not specify what exactly discontented Sony. It is possible that the mod attracted the corporation's lawyers' attention because the enthusiast attempted to monetize his creation by raising funds for development through Patreon.
In June, Speclizer published 25 minutes of the mod's gameplay. According to him, the team had been working on the project for nine months, and it was expected to be quite extensive. The final version was to include a mechanic for detecting enemy positions and a set of custom maps that were not in the game.
The mod was intended to be a kind of successor to the canceled The Last of Us Online. Development of the title continued until 2023, but then Sony decided to terminate it. Since then, the corporation has already abandoned more than one service project.
