On February 26, the Swedish indie studio semiwork released their new game, a cooperative horror titled R.E.P.O., in early access on Steam. According to analytics services, it has become a major hit.
R.E.P.O
According to estimates by Gamalytic, in just under three weeks, R.E.P.O. sold 3.1 million copies. The service estimated the game's gross revenue at 25.5 million dollars—a median figure, with Gamalytic suggesting that R.E.P.O.'s earnings could range anywhere from 5.1 million to 46 million dollars.
Gamalytic notes that 29.2% of R.E.P.O.'s audience came from the United States. Another 9.8% of players were from Russia, and 4.2% were from Canada.
VG Insights calculated R.E.P.O.'s metrics differently, resulting in much lower numbers. According to their data, to date, Steam users have purchased R.E.P.O. 1.5 million times, with the horror game's gross revenue amounting to approximately 10.7 million dollars.
The developers at semiwork have not officially disclosed R.E.P.O.'s sales figures, so it's unclear which data is closer to reality. Nonetheless, for an indie game, R.E.P.O. has performed exceptionally well. Notably, it has already twice appeared in the top 5 of the weekly chart of highest-grossing games on Steam, and it's possible that by the end of the last week, it might re-enter, if not the top 5, then at least the top 20.
Currently, R.E.P.O. holds an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam. The horror game has received over 31,000 reviews, with 96% being positive. Over the weekend, the game set a new record for peak concurrent users on the platform after attracting 230,645 players simultaneously. In comparison, semiwork's previous game, the action-roguelike Voidigo, only peaked at 626 simultaneous players.
