Developers from Spike Chunsoft announced that this achievement took just over 15 years: the first installment of the series, entitled Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, was released in November 2010.

The statistics included sales of the following games:
- Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc;
- Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair;
- Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls;
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony;
- Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp.
How sales were distributed among the individual games is not specified.
Recall that in October 2021, Spike Chunsoft boasted that the Danganronpa series had sold 5 million copies. Thus, it took the franchise four years to double its sales.
Currently, Spike Chunsoft is working on Danganronpa 2×2. The game is set to debut in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and both Nintendo Switch editions.
