Thomas Mahler, CEO of Moon Studios, said that the Ori dilogy has become one of the most successful franchises in the metroidvania genre in history.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
He did not specify how sales were distributed between Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps and by platforms, but said that the studio would have been bankrupt if Blind Forest had failed.
Mahler also admitted that at the start, the version of Blind Forest for the Nintendo Switch was not bought as well as Moon Studios expected. The problem was with the Nintendo eShop. On the day of release, the game did not get to the main page of the store, and according to the search query "Ori" there was only Paper Mario: Origami King.
Recall that Blind Forest was released on the Nintendo Switch in September 2019, four years after its release on PC and Xbox. Will of the Wisps was released in March 2020, and the sequel is also available on PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
Mahler previously wrote in X that the best way to support the studio is to buy its games. In his message, he left links to pages on Steam. When asked why there are no links to the Microsoft Store, Mahler explained that Microsoft Store users launch the game through a Game Pass subscription and do not bring money to the studio.
