Capcom's latest box office success, during which the company announced its policy on "reactivating brands."

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

On September 4, the horror-action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword was released. This is the first project in the franchise in the past 20 years. The last game in the series—excluding remasters and browser spin-offs—was released in 2006.

Despite such a hiatus, the project had a strong start. Early sales of the game surpassed the one million copies threshold. It’s important to note that this figure doesn’t mean the sales reached this number in a day; pre-orders for the game were opened back in June.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword also boasts excellent online performance—on the third day of sales, it peaked at 85,000 players on Steam. Additionally, the audience warmly received the project, with over 87% of reviews being positive.

Capcom highlights the decision to release several demos (which were very warmly received by players) and showcase real builds at exhibitions as successful promotional strategies.

Capcom also announced that, alongside the annual release of major new titles, it plans to focus on reviving game series whose new parts haven’t been released in a long time. The company has not disclosed which other brands will be revived. Notably, its "dormant" series include Dino Crisis, Okami, Lost Planet, and Breath of Fire.
