Mina the Hollower

About the success of Mina the Hollower, Yacht Club Games co-founder Sean Velasco told Bloomberg. According to him, the strong sales of the platformer mean that the studio will neither have to seek external investments nor lay off people—at least for now.

Nonetheless, Velasco hoped to see even more impressive numbers.

“I’m curious why the highest-rated game of 2026 didn’t become the fastest-selling one. Therefore, I am eager to fix this situation,” he stated.

It should be noted that the development of Mina the Hollower was a challenging endeavor for Yacht Club Games. The team spent six years and $5 million on the game, which consumed a large portion of the studio's savings. Additionally, Yacht Club Games had to postpone work on the 3D version of Shovel Knight to focus on this project. Last year, Velasco admitted that the future of the studio depended on the release of Mina the Hollower, and that the developers would face serious problems if the game failed.

Mina the Hollower was released on May 29 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and both Nintendo Switch. The game was warmly received by both critics and gamers. It scored 91 out of 100 on Metacritic, and has a “very positive” rating of 86% on Steam.
