It took Baldur’s Gate 3 five years to reach this milestone: it debuted in early access in October 2020 and was officially released in August 2023.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke shared that thanks to the game's immense popularity, his team is now in a strong financial position. They are more stable and can afford to be more experimental with their next project—Divinity.

Vincke reminded that Baldur’s Gate 3 was partially developed with funding from Tencent, which holds a minority stake in Larian Studios. According to him, without the support of the Chinese giant, making the game as it turned out would have been much more challenging. This collaboration continues to give Larian Studios confidence, though Vincke emphasized that Tencent does not influence the studio's work.

Vincke is cautious about revealing many details about Divinity. Nevertheless, he assured that it will be the most ambitious game Larian Studios has ever created. Like the studio’s recent projects, it is also planned to first release in early access before proceeding to release.

“I think it’s going to be a real breakthrough. A turn-based role-playing game with everything you’ve seen in our past games, but taken to a new level,” Vincke stated.

It is worth noting that Larian Studios rarely shares sales figures for Baldur’s Gate 3. From previous developer statements, it is known that during the early access period, the studio sold 2.5 million copies, and by the beginning of 2024, the figure surpassed 10 million copies. Also, in November of last year, the Irish Independent reported that Baldur’s Gate 3 had sold over 15 million copies, though the studio has not officially confirmed these figures.
