Last spring, the Organization for the Development of the Video Game Industry (RVI) launched a project called the "Developer's Red Book" — a guide in the spirit of "Wikipedia" with useful information for Russian game teams. Almost a year later, they announced the release of a comprehensive guide dedicated to narrative design as part of this project.
The guide is called "Green Pages." As noted by RVI, it covers a wide range of topics: from basic concepts to the nuances of dialogue architecture and the differences between narrative design and game design. Additionally, the authors of the guide shared a list of essential tools.
Currently, there are a total of 46 articles on the "Green Pages," conveniently divided into nine sections. Among the authors are developers of games like Atomic Heart, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, PIONER, "Wars of Worlds: Siberia," "Troubles," and many others. According to RVI, the guide will continue to grow, with new articles to be added over time.
"Since narrative is subjective by nature, we were not afraid of subjectivity in compiling the collection. The authors share their personal views and experiences, and we, with some editing, preserve the author's style. 'Green Pages' does not rely on foreign textbooks because duplicating someone else's conceptual base, born of a different mentality, is a utopia. The sections of the collection highlight the most problematic aspects in domestic development," stated Asya Chashchinskaya, editor-in-chief of the "Green Pages."
