This is reported in a study by the IGROPROM team, which included participation from over a hundred representatives of the domestic game development industry: both from indie studios and large companies.

“Vasilisa and Baba Yaga”

Below are more details on the key findings.

  • According to the survey, the most common problem for Russian developers is the difficulty in marketing games and entering both Russian and international markets. This is an issue for 77.5% of respondents.
  • Slightly fewer developers (70%) admitted that finding funding is challenging. According to them, this is the issue that concerns them the most. Specifically, respondents reported difficulties in securing money from other countries and paying for international services due to sanctions.
  • 30% of respondents lack assistance with accounting and legal matters.
  • 28.7% of developers would like more support from the authorities, such as grants.
  • Many also complained about the lack of offline game exhibitions in Russia (33%), interested game development specialists (20%), and opportunities for specialized education and mentorship (10%).

It's worth noting that the survey results coincide with earlier studies. For example, in 2025, the Internet Development Institute, together with the APRIORI Association and the Skolkovo Foundation, already identified the main barriers for Russian developers as game promotion challenges, limited budgets, and access to foreign services. Even earlier, it was revealed that only a small number of gaming companies in Russia manage to secure government support, while others are denied for various reasons.
